General Manager – Truck Transport

Silver Spring, MD

Our Client is an established Trucking Company and we are looking an experienced General Manager having experience in from Trucking Business.

  1. Manages the operation and maintenance of the organization's motor vehicles.
  2. Oversees DOT compliance and reporting as it relates to the fleet. Reduce accident frequency and maintain a high level of DOT compliance
  3. Develops and implements vehicle and equipment preventive maintenance programs.
  4. Manages fleet department budgets.
  5. Develops and maintains outside vendor and service provider relationships.
  6. May require a bachelor's degree but not mandatory.
  7. The General Manager must build trusting relationships with our drivers and fully support them in the day to day operations.
  8. In addition, the General Manager is responsible for keeping their fleet committed to shipments that safely maximize productivity and provide on-time service to the customers.
  9. Work closely with safety to swiftly respond to any accident, incident, or compliance issue
  10. Meet compliance deadlines for items such as randoms, physicals, scheduled training or counseling
  11. Involve in the recruitment of Driver & minimize driver turnover
  12. Build strong relationships with each driver and always maintain a professional, respectful demeanor when communicating with the drivers.
  13. Always answer the phone and respond to driver messaging in a timely manner.
  14. Maximize the drivers’ revenue and work closely with payroll to eliminate payroll errors
  15. Maximize productivity
  16. Monitor PTA’s and freight needs, work to fill voids
  17. Coach drivers on fundamentals to maximize revenue and miles
  18. Actively solicit, negotiate, and book broker loads to fill gaps as needed
  19. Forecast freight needs several days out to avoid shortages
  20. Preplan fleet, minimize dwell time in between loads and tighten transit times when possible
  21. On time service
  22. Plan assigned fleet of drivers for success by focusing on key factors (hours of service, transit time, driver performance, customer requirements, etc.)
  23. Track and trace loads in motion to ensure on-time performance
  24. Proactively communicate any issues.
  25. Trailer Utilization
  26. Monitor under-utilized trailers and push to turn unused trailers
  27. Oversee and manage trailer pools to ensure we have our committed volume of spotted equipment with each customer
  28. Route trailers in for required preventive maintenance
Qualifications and Skills
  • Must have good interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with drivers, internal employees and external customers (verbal and written).
  • Must be proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Must be able to pay attention to the details of the data entered and ensure accuracy.
  • Must have the ability to handle multiple assignments and work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working in transportation is preferred.
  • Experience with integrated order systems is preferred.
  • Bi-lingual English and Spanish.
